best time of day to buy cheap airfare

What's best day of the week, or time of the day, to buy fares,Bill Miller, VP of Strategic Partnerships for CheapOair.com, has been making nationwide headlines offering travel tips for all types of travelers including budget travelers. Today's economy is challenging and leisure travelers on a budget are worried about taking a much needed vacation. Mr. Miller has provided the "how to's" of cheap travel to allay their concerns.

When asked "How do budget travelers book cheap airfare during peak season?" Mr. Miller said, "The day and even the time you book could save you big cash. Always check airline tickets on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday overnight. Airlines will update their fares through what is called a Global Distribution System (GDS) during this time and that could make a big difference on your wallet in the end." Mr. Miller also added, "Another good tactic to add to your quest for low fares is to sign up for email fare alerts. you can sign up for airfare alerts-- from Farecast, Yapta, and FareCompare, and emails can be sent to you on a regular basis to inform you when fares are increasing or decreasing."

Regarding leisure travel, Mr. Miller explained, "Leisure travel has become affordable now more than ever before. Many luxury hotels and resorts are lowering rates due to the poor economy and airlines, while not as low as 2009 fares, have many more affordable deals right now than in recent history."

Mr. Miller's quick tips for booking cheap tickets include: "Always be flexible with your search, as it has been proven that people who can leave a day earlier or later wind up saving big bucks in the end. Going to an airline direct will limit what you see to just that airline. Searching across multiple airlines provides you the best opportunity to get the best fare available."

He also added, "If you're looking to travel this year, but just do not have the time or funds, why not take a vacation closer to home. While the word 'staycation' might turn some people off, you can actually make the most out of travel without going far away. Two ways to get a break from everyday life without going into major debt are to look for deals under $199 for a weekend getaway to a nearby state or stay at a hotel in your own city."

Virgin America special requirements for pet travel

Virgin America is a pet-friendly airline that accepts cats and dogs in the Main Cabin of the aircraft. Pets checked as baggage are not accepted. Guests with pets cannot be seated in the Main Cabin Select seats (either exit row or row 3) or the First Class cabin. Also on connections with Interline partners, pets are not allowed.

Each animal should be carried in its own kennel (provided by the guest). We allow one pet carrier for each purchased seat. Puppies and kittens must be at least 8 weeks old and weaned. The total weight of the animals and kennel cannot be above 20 pounds. The guest wishing to carry on a cabin pet must present a veterinary certificate dated within 30 days prior to departure that indicates that the shots are current and that the date of birth is listed and is verified to be greater than 8 weeks of age.
Seat dimensions may vary from airline to airline, and on Virgin America, kennel dimensions cannot be more than 18 inches long x 15 inches wide x 8 inches high and must fit directly under the seat in front of the guest. The kennel must have proper ventilation, a floor designed to absorb and retain solids or liquids, proper fabrication to prevent the escape of the pet(s) and prevent any part of the pet(s) from protruding, and plenty of room for the pet(s) to move freely. It is also recommended that a soft sided case is used in lieu of a hard sided case. Pets must stay enclosed in their kennels while onboard and in the airport terminal.

We add a $100.00 fee per segment to the price of your reservation for the transportation of each pet.

Approved carry-on pets include cats and dogs, and yes, carry-on pets count towards a guest's carry-on baggage allowance. Please call reservations at 1.877.FLY.VIRGIN (1.877.359.8474) to make arrangements for traveling with pets. You also may add a pet when booking your reservation on our website, either during booking or by clicking "Anything Else?" when viewing your itinerary. ana expands haneda international routes

ANA has inaugurated five international routes connecting tokyo Haneda Airport with Los Angeles, Honolulu, Singapore, Bangkok, and Taipei (Songshan). This initiative ties in with the resumption of international scheduled flight operations from Haneda, which take effect on October 31, 2010.

“We have long been waiting to operate international scheduled flights from Haneda Airport and we are extremely pleased with the news. We would like to express our gratitude to all those who have worked hard towards the internationalization of Haneda,” said Shinichiro Ito, President and CEO of ANA. “Customers will find international flights to and from Haneda increasingly convenient, as this airport is easy to access from downtown Tokyo and offers fast connections to Haneda’s domestic network. These new services, combined with our existing flights to and from Narita Airport, will allow us to offer our customers unprecedented convenience and flexibility to their journeys. We look forward to this autumn’s new services and we will keep on striving to improve our network for the convenience of our customers.”

Furthermore, ANA will increase the number of U.S. domestic destinations that customers can access via ANA's Haneda=Los Angeles service, utilizing the carrier's continued co-operation with its U.S. partners in Star Alliance; United Airlines, Continental Airlines, and US Airways.
ANA is to begin operating international code-share flights from Haneda with Air Canada (AC), Air China (CA), Asiana Airlines (OZ), Singapore Airlines (SQ), and Thai Airways International (TG), all members of Star Alliance, as well as with Eva Airways (BR) and Malaysia Airlines (MH).

The expansion at Haneda follows completion of a new international terminal at the airport, from where international passengers will be able to access more than 200 Japanese domestic flights and rapid connections to central Tokyo. The Haneda plan complements ANA's strong presence at Tokyo's Narita airport, Japan's primary international hub.

[Total 11 routes and 44 daily flights out of Haneda]

Under the plan, ANA's has reached agreement with seven airlines that will enable the Japanese carrier to offer 11 international routes and up to 44 overseas flights a day from Haneda, almost doubling the daily flight frequency and expanding the route network by a third.

ANA's operation of nine international routes will be increased with two new routes as code-shares within the ANA network; Haneda=Vancouver route operated by Air Canada and Haneda=Kota Kinabalu route operated by Malaysia Airlines. Moreover, ANA will start code-shares on four flights to Singapore with Singapore Airlines, two flights to Bangkok with Thai Airways International, two flights to Seoul (Gimpo) with Asiana Airlines, two flights to Beijing with Air China, and four flights to Taipei (Songshan) with Eva Airways.

Travelers, whether in Southern Africa or the U.S., can now book their South African Airways flight between 20 cities served by JetBlue in the U.S., with the ability to check bags through for their entire journey.

They appreciate the ease with which they can connect between these two award-winning airlines,” said Marc Cavaliere, executive vice president, North America, for South African Airways. “This code share agreement simply builds on an already popular program, and further enhances the service offering for customers wishing to travel between the U.S. and Southern Africa.”

South African Airways also announced recently that its return service from Johannesburg to New York JFK will now operate non stop beginning May 1st. The new timing for the flight means more time on the ground for travelers in Southern Africa, less time in the air, an earlier arrival time in New York, and more time to enjoy the Big Apple or to access many more early morning connection opportunities on JetBlue and a number of other airlines. How many flights per week BA london to RIO

British Airways is doubling its weekly frequency to Rio de Janeiro Brazil from three to six flights per week.

Flights to Rio de Janeiro will now depart Heathrow for Rio every day, except Mondays. The departure time remains at 12.15pm, landing in Rio at 9.55pm local time. The flight will continue to be served by a three class B777, enabling customers to choose from World Traveller (economy), World Traveller Plus (premier economy) and the airline's fully flat beds in Club World (business class).

Neil Cottrell, British Airways' head of network planning, said: "We are experiencing a real increase in demand for Rio and by doubling the number of frequencies, we are able to offer our customers more choice and greater availability. Brazil is also experiencing strong economic growth and this capacity increase is a great opportunity for British Airways to be part of that growth."

Holidays in Rio de Janeiro offer visitors white sandy beaches, rainforest clad mountains and cultural must-sees including the famous Christ the Redeemer statue. British Airways offers a choice of hotels including the 3* Center for a comfortable stay or the 5* InterContinental Rio next to the Gvea Golf Club and the Fashion Mall shopping centre. The 5* Porto Bay Rio Internacional has a rooftop swimming pool and views of the beach while the 5* Copacabana Palace offers luxurious accommodation opposite the famous Copacabana Beach.

British Airways commitment to Latin America has been further strengthened by the introduction of direct flights to Buenos Aires in March. The daily flight now operates direct to Argentina's capital instead of stopping off in Sao Paolo. Holidays in Buenos Aires are popular for gourmet dining, vibrant nightlife and culture with plenty of museums and art galleries.

In April, British Airways and Iberia announced the immediate start of codesharing on a new tranche of one another's flights. This included BA putting its code on Iberia flights from Madrid to San Jose (Costa Rica) and Panama City while Iberia added its code to BA's Bahrain, Doha, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Kuwait and Muscat services. Iberia's flights to Havana started carrying the BA code from April 15. Iberia has also added its code onto British Airways' services to Cape Town and both airlines are now sharing their Johannesburg flights. British Airways offers a range of quality hotels in Cape Town close to museums, galleries, theatres and fine restaurants.

Beijing Capital Airport ranks world's 2nd busiest

Beijing Capital International Airport overtook LHR as the world's second-busiest airport last year, and Hong Kong climbed to the top spot for cargo volumes.

"While North America and Europe have struggled to reach pre-crisis passenger volumes, the Asia-Pacific, Latin America-Caribbean and the Middle East regions sustained a strong momentum and gained market share," Angela Gittens, director-general of the ACI, an industry group, said in a statement.

Traveler numbers in the Chinese capital jumped 13 percent to 73.9 million, trailing only Atlanta, according to data published on Tuesday by Airports Council International (ACI). Heathrow fell to fourth place from second, with passenger numbers dropping 0.2 percent to 65.9 million, as a sluggish UK economy and cancellations after a volcanic eruption in Iceland hurt demand.

China's gross domestic product grew 10.3 percent in 2010, the fastest in three years, as the nation of 1.3 billion people overtook Japan to become the world's No 2 economy. Beijing Capital International Airport was 14th globally as recently as five years ago with 41 million passengers, a total now matched by airports in Guangzhou and Shanghai, which rank in the top 20, according to ACI.

"It's reasonable to think China can continue with double-digit growth for the foreseeable future," said Nick Cunningham, an analyst at Agency Partners in London. "We're really only scratching the surface and there's still unsatisfied demand."

Cunningham said air travel typically expands at twice the pace of the economy, and Chinese demand should, therefore, increase at close to 20 percent a year, though that may be curbed by constraints such as a lack of trained pilots.

In the United States, the world's largest economy, Atlanta attracted 89.3 million passengers last year, up 1.5 percent and still 15 million ahead of Beijing. Chicago O'Hare International Airport ranked third globally with 66.7 million customers after growth of 3.3 percent.

Shares of Beijing Capital International Airport Co, operator of the city's airport, have dropped 1.5 percent this year in Hong Kong trading.

Heathrow Airport, where strikes by British Airways crews added to disruption from the Icelandic volcano, remained Europe's busiest as next-ranked Paris Charles de Gaulle added only 0.4 percent more passengers, the third-worst performance in the top 30. Las Vegas had the only drop other than Heathrow, down 2.6 percent.

In the freight market, Hong Kong's volumes surged 23 percent to 4.17 million tons, propelling it past Memphis International, FedEx Corp's main hub, which had a 5.9 percent increase to 3.9 million tons.

Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd became the world's biggest international air-cargo carrier in 2010, supplanting Korean Air Lines Co, helped by exports from the neighboring Pearl River Delta.

Shanghai was the world's third-busiest cargo airport last year, when it also became the busiest container port. China boosted exports of electronics, clothes and other goods 31 percent in 2010, while the rising number of millionaires is also spurring inbound shipments of luxury goods and fresh foods.

Global passenger traffic rose 6.3 percent overall, based on results from more than 900 airports, ACI said. Cargo rose 15 percent and aircraft movements increased by less than 1 percent.

Guangzhou Baiyun Airport enhance air cargo operation

Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport team up with two leading global logistics corporations - Schenker International and BAX Global - to enhance its cargo business in South China.

The airport signed a similar agreement with another logistics giant, America-based U-Freight two months ago.

Under the new agreement, the airport will provide a number of favorable policies to Schenker International and BAX Global, such as simplifying the customs clearance procedures, guaranteeing cargo stations for the two companies to operate 24 hours a day, and ensuring the safety of cargo.

"Schenker International and BAX Global will introduce international influential clients to the airport as well as promote the airport throughout the world. We will also have to offer training programs to airport staff in order to improve their professional skill in handling cargo," said Huang Yongzhong, the general manager of Guangzhou Branch of BAX Global.

After Baiyun Airport moved to its new location in 2004, it has changed dramatically from an airport without any international cargo into the third biggest distributing center for cargo and mail on the Chinese mainland, following only Shanghai and Beijing, Chen Xiaoning, vice-chairman of Guangdong Airport Management Corporation, said.

It has nine international cargo airlines now, he added.

The handling capacity of cargo and mail of the airport reached more than 630,000 tons last year, up by 8.6 percent from 2005. In the first six months this year, the airport has handled 330,000 tons of cargo and mail.

In October, the airport will collaborate with BAX Global to launch extended terminals.

That means cargo can be cleared through customs in other cities of Guangdong Province and be sent directly to Baiyun Airport.

Since Baiyun Airport is geographically close to Hong Kong's Chek Lap Kok Airport, economists worry the aggressively growing Baiyun Airport will weaken the Hong Kong's airport.

"Guangzhou's airport will not be a rival to the Hong Kong airport," Chen said adding that the two airports are developing in the same region healthily, and have complementary advantages.

"The market of the Pearl Region Delta is very big, and a single Baiyun Airport or a single Chek Lap Kok Airport cannot meet the large demand for handling capacity. So, the two airports actually have to cooperate rather than compete," Eddie Chung, Director with Airfreight in South China of Schenker International, told China Daily.

He also pointed out that Schenker International would not move part of its business in Hong Kong to Baiyun Airport.

However, Baiyun Airport sometimes can share business in the case where the airport in Hong Kong has an overflow of orders.

"In this year and next, we intend to handle 20 million tons of cargo in Baiyun Airport, accounting five percent of the airport's total handling capacity," Huang Yongzhong said.

Both Schenker International and BAX Global are based in Germany, and belong to Deutsche Bahn AG.

The two companies will merge their branches on the mainland in December this year.

So far, Schenker International ranks second in the global air-cargo logistics market.

emirates airline flights to Angola africa

The start of Emirates' flights between Dubai and Luanda reflects the flurry of global interest in Africa's second biggest oil producer, according to an Angolan government minister.

An Airbus A330-200 aircraft fly to Luanda on a Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. Arranged in a three class configuration, EK 791 will leave Dubai at 1000hrs and touch down in Luanda at 1510hrs. The return flight, EK792 leaves Luanda at 1800hrs. It lands in Dubai around eight hours later at 0450hrs the following day.

Nigel Page, Emirates' Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations, Americas & Africa, said: "Africa is such an exciting continent for us and such an important part of the world in terms of world trade. Emirates has demonstrated time and time again that a new air link stimulates business and we look forward to the same happening in Luanda, our 18th destination in Africa and one of only two new routes we have announced this year. This makes our decision to launch the service all the more significant."

In July, a delegation from Angola's travel industry came to Dubai as guests of Emirates on a familiarisation trip to learn more about the airline and Dubai in preparation for the new non-stop flight.

During the four day visit, representatives were brought to the carrier's purpose built headquarters opposite Terminal 3 and shown some of the city's mega-projects including the Burj Dubai and Palm Jumeirah.

Angola is around five times the size of the UK and lies on the Atlantic coast of south-central Africa. It's the continent's second largest oil exporter after Nigeria. The new route will help support the nation's oil-led boom, emerging tourism market and heavy migrant worker traffic.

air asia start flight to france

Malaysian Low-Cost Airline AirAsia X landed at Orly International airport, with Airbus A340 plane at 15:40, marking its first flight into Paris, France.

Air Asia X has chosen to fly to Paris Orly airport instead of the regular international Charles de Gaulle airport. Again this is in line with its London route where the airline uses Stanstead airport. The strategy has proven successful for two reasons. Firstly, the landing fees are considerably cheaper as these are secondary airports. It also means that connecting passengers can use one of the many low cost budget carriers to make a connecting trip. As Paris Orly airport is the busiest French airport for domestic flights, this will put Air Asia X in a more prominent position to serve the whole of France and not just Paris.

In celebration of the first flight into Paris, AirAsia X is offering promotional low fares across the AirAsia network. The airline is not just offering guests special fares to Kuala Lumpur from as low as €229/RM679 (all in fare) one way from Paris but also unbelievable promotional fares via its new “Fly Thru” services. The new connecting “Fly Thru” services which was recently introduced to facilitate a more convenient transit process for connecting guests across selected destinations on the AirAsia X and AirAsia network via its hub in Kuala Lumpur is also offering promotional connecting fares one way from Paris to Indonesia (Bali, Jakarta, Medan and Surabaya) with fares from as low as €269*, from €319* to China (Chengdu, Tianjin, Hangzhou), from €329* to Taiwan(Taipei), from €249 to Singapore, from €279* to Thailand (Bangkok) and from €439* to New Zealand (Christchurch). Guest who opt for this service no longer have to clear immigration in Kuala Lumpur low cost carrier terminal, nor go through the hassle of checking in their luggage twice in order to connect to their onward destinations or worry about transit visa applications. The fares for the above promotion are available online for the booking period from 14 to 20 February, 2011 for the travel period between 1 September to 10 November, 2011.

are airline tickets higher during thanksgiving

Priceline.com reported that, in the last 30 days, the average airline tickets for Christmas-time travel has dropped from $444 to $429. Meanwhile, the average Thanksgiving airfare has risen slightly higher from $383 to $387. Priceline calculated the average airfares for both holidays based on published price airline tickets booked by its customers.

"These recent fare trends should be good news for procrastinating travelers who have yet to book their holiday airline tickets," said Priceline Senior Travel Analyst Brian Ek. "Holiday fares are still higher than in many previous years, but travelers who are choosy in picking less-popular travel days when fares are cheaper can still find affordable airfares. Each year, Priceline publishes a holiday Best Days To Fly calendar that shows all of the most-affordable travel days and fares."

According to the calendar, the best days to fly over the Thanksgiving holiday are November 20, 21, 23, 24, 25 (Thanksgiving Day), 27 and 30.

The best days to fly over the Christmas holiday are December 18, 20, 22, 25 (Christmas Day) 28, 29 and New Year's Day.

Ek also had some additional tips to help find cheaper airfare and keep those travel costs down after the airfare is booked.

Pick times of the day that are normally less busy. Time of day is important. Travelers will find the most affordable seats departing early in the morning (5-7 a.m.) or late evening (after 8 p.m.). Mid-day (11 a.m. – 4 p.m.) is a bit more expensive, but still reasonable. Most expensive are the peak business travel hours (8-10 a.m. and 5-7 p.m.).
Try priceline.com's Name Your Own Price® airline tickets service. You can save even more on your airline tickets by using priceline.com's Name Your Own Price® ticketing service. For help in deciding when to fly or how to bid for maximum savings, check out priceline.com's Inside Track www.priceline.com/insidetrack.
Send those presents on ahead. You see presents; the airlines see extra baggage and maybe some extra fees. Not to mention how unhappy the security screeners will be to see those wrapped boxes. Save yourself the hassle by mailing or shipping presents in advance (after you've wrapped them, of course).
Weigh and measure your baggage. Check your airline's maximum requirements for checked and carry-on bags to make sure you won't incur extra fees. Fees can be up to $25 for the first bag and $35 for the second. Note: baggage fees are charged separately for your outbound and return flights.

American Eagle first class service on CRJ700 plane

All of American Eagle's existing fleet of 25 CRJ-700 aircraft have been outfitted with a premium cabin, and the airline has also begun taking delivery of 22 new two-class CRJ-700s, with all the new jets arriving by the end of second quarter 2011.

Eagle's free First Class dining service on longer flights includes a Continental breakfast with cereal or hot oatmeal and yogurt and a lunch or dinner that includes a fresh salad or a sandwich and dessert. First Class customers receive warm, cleansing towels and mixed nuts prior to their meals, which are served on china. On flights of shorter duration, beverage service will be accompanied by a gourmet snack mix.

"We're pleased to introduce First Class service on our CRJ-700 aircraft," said Peter Bowler, President and CEO of American Eagle. "By July we will have our fleet of 25 CRJs converted by American Eagle mechanics to the new First Class and main cabin design, and we will have taken delivery of the first two of our 22 new CRJs that will also feature First Class comfort and amenities."

American Eagle will offer First Class service from its Chicago and Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) hubs. From Chicago, customers will experience First Class service on flights to Atlanta, Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C., Newark, N.J., George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Oklahoma City, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, San Antonio, and Salt Lake City. From DFW, customers can fly First Class to Cleveland, Milwaukee, Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport in Bentonville/Springdale, Ark., and Little Rock, Ark.

American Eagle worked closely with engineers at the plane's manufacturer, Bombardier, to design new custom leather seating for the premium cabin. The new seat includes four-way adjustable headrests, ergonomically-contoured back and seat cushions, together with a unique, articulated seat bottom, which allows customers to recline with less impact on the legroom of passengers seated behind them.

In addition, Eagle's 22 new aircraft will be delivered with a redesigned ultra-slim seat in the Coach cabin that will provide an additional inch of living space compared to existing CRJ-700 seats and will incorporate many of the features found on the new First Class seat. The CRJ-700 now offers either 54 or 56 seats in the Coach cabin and nine seats in First Class.

Eagle also offers Premium Baggage service to its First Class customers, ensuring their checked bags are expedited to the baggage claim area after landing. Purchase your First Class experience on American Eagle at www.AA.com.

Vietnam Airlines to fly London Ho Chi Minh City route

Vietnam Airlines plans to launch direct flights from Ho Chi Minh City to the United Kingdom by the end of this year, president and CEO Pham Ngoc Minh said.

The British Embassy said Viet Nam Airlines plans to operate up to four services a week to London, twice from Ho Chi Minh City and twice from Ha Noi. United Kingdom airlines are also considering commencing services, it said.
Vietnam Airlines plans to use B777-200ER for direct services to London. Initially, there will be four flights a week, rising to seven by 2014.
About 90,000 passengers flew between the UK and Viet Nam last year, an increase of 28 per cent against 2009.
"There is great potential for the air travel market between our two countries that warrant direct links," he said. "We came up with the initial assumption that we could start launching flights by the end of this year [from Ha Noi and HCM City to airports in London]."

Vu Quang Minh, the Vietnamese ambassador to Britain, said Vietnam Airlines' decision to launch direct flights between the two countries had the "strong political support of both governments" and was a goal of the Joint Declaration to establish a strategic partnership between the two countries in September 2010. He quoted the document as saying: "Both sides welcome and support Vietnam Airlines' intention to begin direct flights between the UK and Viet Nam, which will have a favourable effect on trade, investment, as well as tourism and education co-operation".

Rob Lally, deputy director of the UK Trade and Investment in Asia organisation, said an increasing number of British investors were looking to do business in Viet Nam. "All we want to do is help improve the business network and direct flights will help," he said, adding that he hoped Viet Nam would become a tourism hub for holidaymakers wishing to travel to Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia.

A number of British business people, including those in the travel industry, attended the workshop.

Paul Smith from Harvey Nash Outsourcing Company said he expected the Vietnamese economy to grow significantly over the next five years and that direct flights would be "a return investment".

Asiana has opened the Hansarang lounge on the third floor of the airport, right across its check-in counters. Passengers with disabilities can check-in and board their flight with special access from the Hansarang lounge.

During an opening ceremony for the “Hansarang” Lounge, Wednesday, Asiana Airlines CEO Yoon Young-doo said its disabled customers can now take plenty of rest in a comfortable setting before flights. Hansarang means “one love” in Korean.
Lounge users can also check in while in the Hansarang Lounge, which will make travel more convenient. We are happy that we will be able to upgrade our services for physically-challenged customers in wheelchairs,’’ Yoon said.

The CEO said the airline will make all-out efforts to differentiate customer services from those of other airlines in order to provide customers with the best-quality services.

In 2010, nearly 50,000 air travelers in wheelchairs either entered the country or went abroad through Incheon International Airport.

The lounge is located on the third floor of the airport, across from the Asiana counter K. Company employees will be stationed at the lounge, which operates from 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., to help those in wheelchairs take a break and complete boarding procedures.

``Before we designed and built the lounge, we had extensively consulted with representatives of physically-disabled groups about its layout. We reflected their recommendations in the building process. I am positive that our customers will face no difficulty in using the facility,’’ the CEO stressed.
