On the legacy side, only American showed an increase of 21.7%. This is due to the recent addition of two flights to JFK and a 2nd flight to Port Au Prince, Haiti. Projected airline schedules indicate that passenger traffic will continue to grow. The most recent US Department of Transportation data shows that FLL ranked 3rd among large hub airports in domestic load factor increases.

"This will be a great benefit to our residents as well as provide more opportunity for increased tourism." I commend Spirit Airlines for its continued commitment to our airport and to South Florida. By adding these new destinations it gives our passengers more ultra low fare choices," said Kent George, Director of Aviation, Broward County Aviation Department. "Thank you for helping make FLL the fastest growing airport in Florida and the fourth fastest in the country."

"Every time Spirit adds service, it adds a smile to Fort Lauderdale," said Nicki E. Grossman, president of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau. cost of business class ticket NYC to Heathrow

Business class air fares on key trans-Atlantic routes appear to be declining ominously, according to Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA), using its new, freely available online air fares database developed in partnership with ITA Software, has found that the cheapest available business class ticket price on 20 key trans-Atlantic routes have dropped an average of 17.8% for bookings made over the next five weeks.

http://www.centreforaviation.com/news/2011/03/30/north-atlantic-premium-books-soften-business-fares-down-18/page1

The biggest drop is in average fares from New York JFK to Paris, which have fallen from USD7243.76 on 28-Mar-2011 to USD3944.79 on 01-May-2011 – a drop of 43.6%.

Sample of Business Class fares* (30-day moving average) on key trans-Atlantic routes:
London Heathrow to New York JFK
3802.11 3602.60 -5.2%

Newark Liberty
4651.33 3988.05 -14.3%

Boston
5700.41 3304.20 -42.0%

Washington Dulles
5719.03 4496.04 -21.4%

Miami
6513.93 4633.67 -28.9%

Chicago O'Hare
6632.37 4813.39 -27.4%

*Fares listed are the lowest return airfare (3 days stay), inclusive of taxes and surcharges.
All fares calculated are a 30-day moving average of a 30-day forward basis, so 30-Mar-2011 fares were as at 01-Mar-2011.

The period under review includes Easter, which typically reduces business travel. However, the premium fares data does reflect growing concern among airline executives that North Atlantic markets are softening and prices beyond Easter remain soft.

Delta airlines President Ed Bastion said last week that revenues in the Atlantic market were expected to be down 2-3% in 1Q2011, while unit costs were up 11-12% as the airline expands capacity, “reflecting a continuing softening of the trans-Atlantic market”. United Continental CEO Jeff Smisek also last week pointed to the softening of the trans-Atlantic market, noting that Atlantic forward bookings were down 3.7 points.

The North Atlantic is the world’s biggest and most lucrative premium travel market. It accounts for 15% of total premium traffic, but some 25% of worldwide premium revenues.

Directional fares: cheaper ex Heathrow than JFK
The price of business fares continues to show wide disparities too, depending on where the journey begins. Fares on the New York JFK-Heathrow route are for example considerably cheaper out of JFK than from Heathrow. The difference widens by early May.
Much of the economic “recovery” since the GFC has been on main street, especially in the US. That is, the stock market is up, as businesses become more efficient in the tough times. But meanwhile, ugly high unemployment rates continue to nudge 10%.

The outcome of these separate factors has been a renewal of business travel – on which the airlines have generated profitability – while consumer demand has stagnated, meaning discretionary travel has stayed soft throughout.

Now, just as fuel prices start to hurt again and airlines look to build in fuel surcharges, only the less price sensitive business market was likely to absorb the necessary price rises. To push fares higher in discretionary markets is only likely to deter people from flying – or to change to a lower priced airline.

The message that the forward fares data are delivering is that airlines are not only unlikely to claw back the added fuel costs, they are actually going to have to reduce fares to maintain traffic levels.

The Dubai-Geneva service will be operated by a combination of Boeing 777-200LR and Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. The aircraft will be arranged in a three-class configuration, offering First Class Private Suites, lie-flat seats in Business Class, and a spacious cabin in Economy Class.

Geneva is sometimes referred to as the "birthplace of watch making" as the industry dates to the mid 16th century in the city. Even in 1790, Geneva was exporting more than 60,000 watches a year. In 2010, Swiss watch manufacturers exported more than 26 million finished watches, according to the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry.

The luxury sector, including watch making, is amongst the top three employers in the Geneva region, representing 60% of its exports.

Each Emirates' 777 aircraft serving Geneva will have 15-20 tonnes of cargo capacity - space for plenty of luxury watches, along with high-end fashion goods, diplomatic cargo, relief shipments for the International Red Cross, pharmaceutical products and electronics.

"Geneva is our second gateway into Switzerland after Zurich. We see strong demand for both leisure and business travel, bearing in mind the presence of hundreds of international organisations and Geneva's status as a major financial centre," said Richard Vaughan, Emirates' Divisional Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations Worldwide.

Air New Zealand increase fares to cover fuel cost

Air New Zealand is increasing airfares by as much as 8 per cent on average because of the rising cost of jet fuel.

From March 18, domestic airfares will increase by an average of 7 per cent, fares to Australia and the Pacific Islands will increase by an average of 8 per cent and long haul fares will increase by an average of 7 per cent.

DOMESTIC
Airfares sold in New Zealand for domestic flights will increase by an average of 7%;
- Direct Smart Saver fares will increase by approximately $10 one way
- Direct Flexi Plus fares will increase approximately $15 one way
- Indirect Smart Saver fares will increase by $15 one way
- Indirect Flexi Plus fares will increase by $20 one way

The airline said that in the past month jet fuel has increased from $US114 ($NZ155) per barrel to $US130 per barrel, adding almost $US10 million per month to the airline's operating costs.

Earlier today, Qantas said it would again increase fuel surcharges on international flights on tickets issued on or after March 17.

It said oil and fuel prices were an increasing concern for the aviation industry and its surcharges would not recover the full impact of the latest oil and fuel prices.

Aviation analysts have said that surcharges are a transparent way of recovering rising fuel costs compared with increasing airfares.

Airpoints and Velocity points and lounge benefits

Air New Zealand are joining frequent flyer programmes with Virgin Australia and Virgin Velocity silver,Gold and Platinum level members will be able to use their Gold benefits when travelling on Air New Zealand such as Priority Check-in,Priority security screening lane at Melbourne domestic airport,Priority Boarding.

Under the new network, Air New Zealand will operate approximately 70% of the capacity and Virgin Australia’s Pacific Blue airline will operate 30%, similar to the relative market share the airlines had prior to the commencement of the Alliance.

The Alliance has four key components:
A broad free-sale code share arrangement covering all Tasman sectors and domestic Australian and New Zealand sectors as part of a connecting journey
A revenue share agreement
Reciprocal loyalty scheme benefits to members of Air New Zealand’s Airpoints loyalty programme and Virgin Australia’s Velocity Rewards programme.
Reciprocal lounge access to qualifying guests of either airline
The planned joint trans-Tasman network will see the adjustment of Air New Zealand and Pacific Blue flight times to ensure more convenient schedules for passengers, for example:

Brisbane-Wellington - previously both airlines had flights at similar times four days per week and no afternoon flights on some days. The new schedule will see Pacific Blue operate a double daily service of morning and afternoon/evening flights
Brisbane-Christchurch - previously both airlines had flights at similar times four days per week. The new schedule will see the two airlines operate a combined double daily service of morning and afternoon/evening flights
Queenstown-Sydney - previously both airlines had flights at similar times on Tuesdays and Saturdays only. The new schedule will offer a flight five days a week in peak demand months
Wellington-Sydney - previously both airlines had flights at similar times two days a week and no afternoon flights on some days. The new schedule will see Air New Zealand operating double daily services of morning and afternoon/evening flights
There will also be transferring of capacity on some routes between the two airlines where appropriate, for example:

Pacific Blue will take up Air New Zealand services between Sydney/Melbourne and Dunedin, operating during the December and January peak. There is also improved connectivity via Christchurch to new double daily Christchurch-Brisbane, Christchurch-Sydney and Christchurch-Melbourne services
Air New Zealand will assume all Wellington-Sydney flying and Pacific Blue will assume all Brisbane-Wellington flying
Capacity changes will occur on some routes to match demand and market conditions, for example:

Capacity on Air New Zealand Auckland-Adelaide services will increase by 16%, with a daily service in the peak summer months, and Auckland-Perth services will increase to eight times per week (up 4%) over the summer peak.
Air New Zealand will take over operation of the Auckland-Cairns route and frequency will be matched to projected demand
Total capacity into and out of Wellington is up 3.5%, with Melbourne-Wellington enjoying the largest increase of 10.5% and Brisbane-Wellington up 5%
Capacity on Christchurch markets will be reduced by around 14% to match the ongoing reduction in demand as a result of the recent earthquakes
Total capacity to and from Auckland remains unchanged, including Air New Zealand’s wide body services on Auckland-Sydney, Auckland-Melbourne and Auckland-Brisbane.

Virgin Australia Group Executive Commercial Liz Savage said: “With plans for the joint network now in place, we are focusing on the launch of our comprehensive product offering in early July. We will provide reciprocal Velocity and Airpoints frequent flyer programmes and lounge access in Australia and New Zealand, as well as a coordinated offering of in-flight products and services, so that guests will receive similar first-rate service and benefits, no matter which airline they fly.

“Virgin Australia and Air New Zealand are also committed to growing the market, with plans to grow capacity further from March next year for the Northern Summer schedule.

“Regional areas in Australia and New Zealand will also see significant benefits from the alliance, as the two airlines will offer code share flights on each other’s domestic services as part of connecting Tasman journeys. This will open up regional destinations in both countries like never before, making it easier for regional residents to get across the Tasman and for tourists to access regional destinations in Australia and New Zealand,” says Ms Savage.

Lima, the cradle of the Incan civilization, has all the irresistible Latin charm that characterizes the major metropolises of South America. A tour of this sprawling city gives us an insider’s view that not even the bulk of the residents are able to take in. The residential district of Miraflores offers a most welcome verdant oasis in the heart of a city where urbanization gains more and more terrain each year.

A change of decor for the historic center of Lima, Pizarro’s “City of Kings”, and a jewel of 16th and 17th colonial architecture that was designated a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1988. Lima boasts a large selection of museums, including the National Museum of Anthropology and Archeology and the Museo Larco, particularly recommended for getting an in-depth look at the history and culture of the country.

With the first rays of the summer sun, the beaches come alive and fill with a colorful array of surfers looking for thrills and workers seeking a cooling breeze far from the bustling city. At night, a visit to the Barranco district is a must with its trendy bars, clubs and shows that attract a chic, ready-to-party crowd.
