best time of day to buy cheap airfare

What's best day of the week, or time of the day, to buy fares,Bill Miller, VP of Strategic Partnerships for CheapOair.com, has been making nationwide headlines offering travel tips for all types of travelers including budget travelers. Today's economy is challenging and leisure travelers on a budget are worried about taking a much needed vacation. Mr. Miller has provided the "how to's" of cheap travel to allay their concerns.

When asked "How do budget travelers book cheap airfare during peak season?" Mr. Miller said, "The day and even the time you book could save you big cash. Always check airline tickets on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday overnight. Airlines will update their fares through what is called a Global Distribution System (GDS) during this time and that could make a big difference on your wallet in the end." Mr. Miller also added, "Another good tactic to add to your quest for low fares is to sign up for email fare alerts. you can sign up for airfare alerts-- from Farecast, Yapta, and FareCompare, and emails can be sent to you on a regular basis to inform you when fares are increasing or decreasing."

Regarding leisure travel, Mr. Miller explained, "Leisure travel has become affordable now more than ever before. Many luxury hotels and resorts are lowering rates due to the poor economy and airlines, while not as low as 2009 fares, have many more affordable deals right now than in recent history."

Mr. Miller's quick tips for booking cheap tickets include: "Always be flexible with your search, as it has been proven that people who can leave a day earlier or later wind up saving big bucks in the end. Going to an airline direct will limit what you see to just that airline. Searching across multiple airlines provides you the best opportunity to get the best fare available."

He also added, "If you're looking to travel this year, but just do not have the time or funds, why not take a vacation closer to home. While the word 'staycation' might turn some people off, you can actually make the most out of travel without going far away. Two ways to get a break from everyday life without going into major debt are to look for deals under $199 for a weekend getaway to a nearby state or stay at a hotel in your own city."
