AA 737 Sky Interior increase onboard comfort

Boeing delivered to American Airlines its first Next-Generation 737-800 featuring the all-new Boeing Sky Interior (BSI). The new aircraft marks a major milestone in American's commitment to improving and modernizing the customer experience through the execution of its fleet renewal plan.
The Boeing Sky Interior is designed to increase customer comfort onboard and is an important part of American's ongoing initiative to modernize the look and feel of its 737 fleet interiors. The 737-800 BSI aircraft are a strategic part of American's commitment to invest in products and services that make the travel experience more contemporary and innovative for customers.

The new 737-800 BSI interior offers several unique features, including larger overhead bins – modeled after the 787 Dreamliner's pivoting bins – that pivot down and out. The innovative design allows the bins to hold 48 more bags than standard overhead bins and four more than current non-BSI aircraft with larger bins. Sculpted sidewalls provide customers with a contemporary feeling of spaciousness and updated window reveals make the windows appear larger. Brighter and longer-lasting LED lighting can be programmed to create different effects during the flight such as a soft blue sky overhead. Intuitive placement of switches and call buttons and improved sound quality are innovative features that will enhance the customer experience. Additionally, the new 737s offer 16 First Class seats and 144 in Economy Class for a total of 160 seats on each aircraft.

From 2007 through 2011, American Airlines expects to invest more than $5.5 billion in new aircraft and onboard and facility enhancement projects to improve the customer experience.
"American Airlines has made a significant investment to enrich the flying experience for our customers through the purchase of new aircraft and the refurbishment of our existing fleet," said Virasb Vahidi, American's Chief Commercial Officer. "At American, we are focused on providing a differentiated customer experience, with a distinct focus on best delivering what premium customers value most – world-class products and services. The delivery of the first 737-800 with the new Boeing Sky Interior is our most recent step to deliver on this commitment."

"This new airplane will be a great addition to American's existing 737 fleet," said Marlin Dailey, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "American Airlines is leveraging all the performance benefits of the Next-Generation 737 to enhance its competitive position, while providing a new, more comfortable and inviting interior."

As part of its fleet renewal plan, American began taking delivery of new Boeing 737-800s without BSI in April 2009. The airline received 31 737-800s in 2009, 45 in 2010 and plans to receive 15 in 2011, 28 in 2012 and 11 beginning in 2013.

To provide consistency within the travel experience and further elevate customer comfort onboard, American is updating its initial fleet of Boeing 737s, the last of which was delivered in 2001, to match the new 737 deliveries without the BSI feature. The interior renovations include the installation of new customized First and Economy Class seats, new cabin interiors, updated inflight entertainment systems and bigger overhead bins to provide more storage throughout the aircraft. American is also updating the interior of its 757 fleet, which will include a new look-and-feel throughout the cabin. Both projects are being handled in-house by American employees at the airline's Maintenance and Engineering base located in Tulsa, Okla.

Delta airlines and the Air France-KLM started a major international expansion with new flights connecting Florida with three major European cities: London, Paris and Amsterdam.
The airlines will operate the new Florida flights under their industry-leading trans-Atlantic joint venture, an agreement, which also includes Alitalia, that allows the partners to coordinate flights and share costs and revenues of the service. Lufthansa curbside checkin at Detroit Metro Airport

Lufthansa German Airlines now offers a unique curbside checkin and baggage check service for customers departing from Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW)’s North Terminal to Frankfurt and beyond.

Eligible customers may now conveniently conduct the entire check-in process at the curb and proceed directly to security screening—speeding travel through the airport by bypassing the check-in counter. Additionally, eligible customers who have already checked-in for their flight online may now also drop their checked luggage directly at the curb.

This new, free service is available for customers in First and Business Class, Senator and HON Circle Members, and Star Alliance Gold Members. Lufthansa becomes the only airline allowing international customers departing from Detroit to check their bags and receive a boarding pass directly at the curb, while Detroit becomes Lufthansa’s first North American gateway to feature curbside check-in service.

“With Frankfurt ranked as one of Detroit’s top markets for international travel and Germany accounting for about 25 percent of all traffic between Detroit and Europe, Detroit is a very important market for Lufthansa,” said Ümit Menemenci, Lufthansa Station Manager for Detroit. “We are pleased to introduce curbside check-in and baggage check service for the first time in North America to our Detroit customers, which will also compliment well our exclusive Lufthansa Automotive program.”

“Lufthansa continues to be a strong partner with the Airport Authority in providing non-stop, competitive air travel options between Southeast Michigan and Europe, and onward to Asia, the Middle East, and beyond,” said WCAA Interim CEO Genelle M. Allen. “We are delighted that Lufthansa has once again chosen Detroit as their North American launch market for their latest investment in the travel experience.”

In November 2010, Detroit was selected as one of three introductory markets for the re-launch of Lufthansa’s FlyNet™ in-flight broadband internet service, which will be gradually introduced on all North American routes by the end of this year. Customers on Lufthansa’s flights between Detroit and Frankfurt were among the first to surf the internet and use mobile data communication services from their WLAN-enabled device while inflight over the Atlantic. From 2007, Lufthansa has also featured its Lufthansa Automotive program exclusively for U.S.-based automotive business travelers. The program allows members to qualify for Frequent Traveler status in Miles & More, Europe’s largest frequent flyer program, as well as other special privileges and exclusive offers from Lufthansa and other Star Alliance members.

Lufthansa Denver to Frankfurt germany flights

german airlines Lufthansa celebrate ten years of service on the Denver-Frankfurt route. Lufthansa's service to Denver (LH 446/447) launched on March 25, 2001 with daily nonstop service to Frankfurt. Currently it is the only airline with nonstop service from Denver to Frankfurt, Europe’s second-largest airport. Lufthansa is also the only scheduled airline to provide an international First Class product nonstop from Europe to the Mile High City. And as of March 27, the flight will operate with increased capacity with a 747-400 instead of an A340-600.

Lufthansa First and Business Class passengers at Denver Airport have access to two United Airlines Red Carpet Club lounges in terminal B. The Denver gateway serves several other regional markets with connections via United Airlines primarily from Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Inter-mountain-west and the Pacific Northwest.

The United-Lufthansa alliance makes it possible for customers of both airlines to access the networks of two global airlines while still enjoying the seamless type of travel experience they would have if they were flying on just one carrier. United-Lufthansa customers will enjoy one-stop check-in at their first point of contact on either side of the Atlantic, accrual and redemption of frequent flyer miles for flights operated by either carrier in either United's Mileage Plus program or Lufthansa's Miles & More program and conveniently located airport facilities for quick connections. United-Lufthansa customers also enjoy reciprocal access to each carrier's airport lounges, and the recognition and benefits of their silver or gold frequent flyer program status when flying on either carrier.

Delta 767-400 Businesselite get flat bed seats

Delta airlines has completed the installation of full flat-bed seats in the Business class cabin of all Boeing 777 and 767-400ER type aircraft.
The last of 18 Boeing 777 aircraft, each with 45 BusinessElite seats per plane, and all 21 Boeing 767-400ER aircraft with 40 BusinessElite seats per plane have been retrofitted with full flat-bed seats.

Progress continues as Delta's first Boeing 767-300ER will receive its scheduled full flat-bed in August. To date, more than 25 percent of Delta's widebody international fleet has received the upgrade and the airline's entire widebody international fleet of more than 140 aircraft will be flying with full flat-bed seats in BusinessElite by the end of 2013.

"A full flat-bed seat with direct aisle access is a premium cabin feature that's important to our customers and we're delivering," said Tim Mapes, senior vice president – Marketing. "Installing full flat-bed seats on each of our widebody international aircraft is a major component of the $2 billion investment Delta is making in our product and customer experience over the next two years."

Delta's ongoing investment to enhance the customer experience includes work underway on Delta's new Terminal 4 at New York-JFK, opening in 2013, and the new Maynard H. Jackson Jr. International Terminal in Atlanta, opening in 2012. Pending government approval of an agreement between Delta and US Airways to transfer takeoff and landing rights at New York's LaGuardia and Washington D.C.'s Reagan National airports, Delta also will spend up to $117 million to expand, renovate and consolidate terminals C and D at LaGuardia over the next two years.

Delta begin fly to Beijing from USA

Delta airlines inaugurate its first nonstop flight route on the 269-seat Boeing 777 aircraft from Beijing to Detroit, Michigan, on July 3, at Beijing Capital International Airport, the carrier says. The carrier also launched its biweekly Shanghai-Atlanta direct flight on June 6.
The flight will operate five days each week on 269-seat Boeing 777 aircraft featuring full flat-bed seats in BusinessElite, as well as Delta's new Economy Comfort class, which offers additional legroom and early boarding.

The new route increases the number of seats the airline offers in China to 1,500 every day and is part of its network expansion plan, the company says.

The route also increases Delta's weekly departures from China to 47. Of these, 19 are from Beijing, 16 are from Shanghai and 12 are from Hong Kong.

All of the new routes are nonstop flights connecting China with the United States. This reflects the huge potential and demand for trans-Pacific travel and communications, the airline says.

"The Detroit hub is a key part of our Asian network, and our new flight to Beijing will mean even more opportunities for economic development in the city."

Detroit is not a conventional destination for leisure travelers from China. But as one of Delta's biggest US hubs, Detroit is a gateway to 129 cities in the Western hemisphere.

"Delta has very simple strategy - to serve Chinese customers by offering them easy access to both the east and west coasts of the States," Delta's director of Greater China, Sandeep Bahl says.

He was recently elected chairman of the Board of Airline Representatives in China.

Delta operates a daily direct flight from Beijing to Seattle, Washington, and five weekly flights to Detroit and seven weekly flights to Tokyo-Narita.

Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport is one of the US' busiest. It has 145 gates and six jet runways, which is comparable to Beijing Capital International Airport - the world's second largest airport in terms of annual passenger capacity, which was 75 million last year.

Delta announced the start of its code-share service with China Eastern Airlines on June 1. Under the agreement, Delta flight numbers will be added to 49 China Eastern-operated domestic flights to 21 cities in China and nonstop trans-Pacific flights connecting Shanghai with Los Angeles, California and New York City.

China Eastern flight numbers will be added to 38 Delta-operated domestic flights to 21 US cities and to its nonstop trans-Pacific service linking Detroit and Atlanta, Georgia, with Shanghai.
