American Airlines add Brazil routes

American Airlines, which offers more flights to Brazil than any other U.S. airline, plan to fly 10 additional U.S. – Brazil weekly frequencies that it will use to add service from its Miami hub. American proposes to increase its current service from Miami to Brasilia and Belo Horizonte, and to launch new service from Miami to Manaus.

American will use three frequencies to increase Miami – Brasilia route from four per week to daily using 182-seat Boeing 757-200 aircraft beginning Dec. 15, three frequencies to increase Miami – Belo Horizonte service from four times per week to daily using 225-seat Boeing 767-300ER aircraft beginning Dec. 15 and four frequencies to inaugurate Miami – Manaus service using 160-seat Boeing 737-800 aircraft beginning June 14, 2012.

"If we are granted the use of these frequencies, we could begin flying as early as this coming December," said Will Ris, American's Senior Vice President – Government Affairs. "From Miami International Airport, we offer more than 380 weekly flights to more than 30 cities throughout Latin America and Mexico. Our proposed new service will give our customers even more travel options to Brazil, Latin America's largest economy."
American serves Brazil from Miami to Belo Horizonte, Brasilia, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and Sao Paulo, and from Dallas/Fort Worth and New York-JFK to Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. With more than 65 weekly flights, American operates more service to Brazil than any other U.S. carrier.

American is expanding its service to Brazil, adding both flight frequencies and new destinations to its worldwide network. In November 2010, American plans to begin service from its Miami hub to Brasilia**, and from New York-JFK* to Rio de Janeiro. American is also seeking authority from the Department of Transportation to operate new nonstop service from Dallas/Fort Worth to Rio de Janeiro***. With these additional flights, American will offer a total of 72 weekly flights to and from Brazil.
