For the seventh year in a row, Emirates Airline’s ice inflight entertainment system has been awarded the world's Best Airline Inflight Entertainment award at the 2011 Skytrax World Airline Awards.
Emirates latest IFE system, ice Digital Widescreen (ice stands for information, communications and entertainment), offers a staggering choice of over 1200 channels of entertainment, including over 280 movies from around the world, hundreds of TV choices and thousands of music tracks from contemporary to classical.
As well as investing in the latest entertainment content and newest systems, Emirates has recently finished upgrading the hardware on its existing A330-200 and A340-300 fleets to a new digital IFE system; bringing ice to every seat in Emirates First Class and Emirates Business Class - a considerable investment in equipment at time when many airlines are easing back on significant product improvements. Furthermore, Emirates now has over 90 aircraft equipped with AeroMobile, which allows mobile phone use inflight, and will soon roll out A380 aircraft equipped with WiFi internet connection.
as a global airline serving 113 destinations on five continents, our passengers are as diverse and unique as our routes. Emirates strives to make our service the most comfortable and entertaining in the world. This year’s Skytrax world's Best Airline Inflight Entertainmentaward once again underlines our relentless commitment to providing the best inflight entertainment in the air offering more content, in more languages and ultimately more choice, than ever before, said Patrick Brannelly, EmiratesVice President Corporate Communications Product.
"Emirates seems to have a very firm grip on this title, having been named the winner of world's Best Airline Inflight Entertainment Award for many successive years," said Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax. "With the increased level of competition amongst airlines to deliver the best standards of inflight entertainment, it is an even greater achievement for Emirates that they can stay at the No 1 spot again in 2011."
A great example of what passengers can experience from inflight entertainment on Emirates is the incredible August line-up; featuring 50 newly-acquired movies from Hollywood, Bollywood and beyond. Emirates will be the first airline showing of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, which complements an extensive film library available on ice. ek 151/152 dxb cph route
Emirates has startrd flights to Denmark and the land of famous story teller Hans Christian Andersen.
Today's launch of a non-stop daily service to Copenhagen takes Emirates' own story into brand new territory as its first passenger service to Scandinavia.
Staffed by highly trained and multi-national cabin crew, EK 151 leaves Dubai each day at 0830hrs and reaches Copenhagen at 1310hrs. The return flight, EK 152, takes off from Copenhagen at 1455hrs and lands in Dubai at 2315hrs.
Their guests on the first flight included Claus Rubenius, founder of RUBENIUS; Jens Lund, Chairman of the Danish Business Council in Dubai; Lars Oestergaard Nielsen, Managing Director, Maersk Kanoo (UAE) and an international media group.
The Dubai-Copenhagen route, the airline's 114th destination, will be served by an A330-200 in a three-class configuration. Up to 17 tonnes of cargo can be carried in the belly-hold of each flight.
After touching down in Denmark under the command of Danish Captain, Lars Schoyen, Copenhagen Airport arranged for a water cannon salute before the VIP delegation joined a welcoming reception inside the terminal. Teddy Zebitz, Emirates' Area Manager Nordic Countries, led the proceedings, attended by Sheikha Najla Al Qassimi, the UAE’s Ambassador to Sweden; Per Tangsgaard Jensen, Danish Consul General to Dubai, Copenhagen Airports and other guests from the travel, business and aviation sectors.
the route is great news for the many Danish and Scandinavian businesses that are operating in the growth markets of Southeast Asia, India, and Australia. It will also help attracting both business travellers and tourists to Denmark, said Carsten Noerlund, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Copenhagen Airports.
emirates daily route, via Dubai, opens up South Asia, Australia and Oceania for Denmark and southern Sweden. It gives businesses here significant benefits and will facilitate their access to new markets and encourage further internationalisation, said Lars Bernhard Joergensen, CEO of Wonderful Copenhagen and chairman of the route development programme, Copenhagen Connected.
there is also considerable potential for tourism that we look forward to realising. The destination marketing that we do with Emirates in Asia and Australia in the coming years will contribute to realising that potential, added Mr Joergensen.
Bookings for the first flight into Denmark certainly match the hopes of Wonderful Copenhagen. Reservations have come from a diverse list of cities, such as Melbourne, Jakarta, Seoul, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Singapore, Cape Town, Accra, Dubai and Bahrain.
the inauguration of Emiratesservice between Copenhagen and Dubai strengthens Denmark’s international availability and access to global markets, said Michael Svane of the Confederation of Danish Industries.
There are almost 100 Danish subsidiary companies established in the UAE with about 80 agents/distributors for other Danish companies. Also, more and more delegations from Denmark are regularly visiting the UAE.
Tonight, Emirates will host more than 400 guests at a gala dinner at the National Museum of Denmark in Copenhagen to celebrate the start of the new service.

Iberia add more flights to Central American
Iberia has launched new flights to Central America.
These new flights will fly to San Salvador and Panama direct from Madrid. Previously these flights went via Guatemala.
Iberia now flies to four Central American countries including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala and Panama.
The flights to Central America from Iberia’s new Madrid Terminal 4 hub are all direct, and are timed to ensure easy convenient connections for passengers flying to or from Germany.
From Terminal 4 Iberia operates 13 flights each day to and from Frankfurt, Munich, Berlin and Dusseldorf. From Madrid Iberia flies to 17 Latin American cities and 4 destinations in the United States, to 10 cities in Africa and the Middle East, and to 35 in Spain.
The flights to Panama City and San Salvador will use the Airbus A-340/300 aircraft with a passenger capacity of 254 people. Iberia predicts passenger levels of around 40,000 to San Salvador and over 80,000 to Panama City next year.
With Central America increasing in popularity as a holiday destination Iberia is taking steps to improve connections with other countries within Central America.
“It is very pleasing for Central America and the whole travel industry to see Iberia making this investment in Central America and proves that the region is increasing in popularity. The whole region has so much to offer tourists and holidaymakers, it is important to have the infrastructure in place to cope with demand and make the whole of Central America easily accessible.” Said Nigel Thomas, Managing Director, Hidden Trails Limited
